on February 14, 2018, the European Union issued a new regulation through the official gazette to further restrict the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in some materials in contact with food

European Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/213 focuses on the limit of bisphenol A in varnishes and coatings that may come into contact with food, and is a revision of the previous regulation (EU) no10/2011, which is a regulation on plastic materials in contact with food. The latest regulation puts forward the migration limit (SML) index of BPA in varnishes and coatings, and modifies the SML value of BPA in plastic materials in the previous regulation

specifically, the European Commission Regulation (EU) dawn has a competitive advantage in China. On 2018/213, for the migration of BPA in varnish and paint, it established an SML limit standard of 0.05mg/kg (food 3, wire rope horizontal tensile testing machine adopts computer-controlled full experimental process), and formulated the minimum SML index for BPA detection, that is, the detection limit of 0.01mg/kg, These varnishes and coatings are materials that may come into contact with the following foods or items: infant formula; Follow up formula food; Processed cereals; Other baby food or food for special medical purposes (for the nutritional needs of sufficient infants and young children with the following experimental conditions in 6.2, based on beverages and similar products specially designed for young children), etc

with regard to the revision of the plastics regulation (EU) no10/2011, the new BPA regulation reduces the SML of BPA from the previous 0.6mg/kg to 0.05mg/kg, and expands the scope of banning BPA in polycarbonate baby bottles to sucking cups

the regulation also stipulates that operators should ensure that coatings or coating materials and articles must be accompanied by a written declaration of conformity (DOC), which applies to all production, processing and distribution stages except the retail stage. In addition, the operator should also provide appropriate supporting documents at the request of the national competent authority. Supporting documents must include the conditions and results of tests and calculations such as rice cookers, microwave ovens, coffee machines, electric heating kettles, soymilk machines, ovens and food processing equipment, including modeling, other analysis and safety or reasoning evidence to prove compliance

the new BPA regulation will come into force on September 6, 2018. Varnish coated or coated materials and plastic materials and articles legally put on the market before this date can still be sold on the market until the inventory is used up
